The Boundless Technologies CFX Vape is a hybrid vaporizer that has gained a solid reputation since its release in 2017. For its price point, there are a lot of great key features that make this a solid mid-level dry herb vaporizer with concentrate abilities. Widely known for its ease of use and comparisons to the Mighty+ Vaporizer, we’ll be going over the pros and cons of the CFX in this in-depth review.

How to use the Boundless CFX?

The Boundless CFX is easy to use and understand with a full HD digital screen and intuitive buttons. To turn it on, press the power button five times. The screen will begin to power and heat to the last setting used. However, you can adjust this by pressing up or down on the buttons. The screen looks like a speedometer and is very attractive, although not the most discreet because of this. When the CFX reaches your set temperature, it will vibrate to let you know it’s ready to be inhaled. There is a helpful five-minute off timer if you forget to power down after a session by pressing the power five times again.

Boundless CFX Temperature Settings

The CFX features a wide temperature range, from 25 to 220 degrees Celsius. Its precision controls allow you to choose your temperature down to the exact degree. We recommend sticking right around 185 degrees Celsius to get the best possible vaping experience. As it is mainly conduction with some convection elements, heat up time is very fast at only 20 seconds, and you will be able to get a lot of vapor out of your finely ground cannabis.

Heating System and Chamber

The heating chamber on the CFX from Boundless vapes is made from stainless steel. You can pack a lot of dry herb into this beast of a unit as the chamber size of the CFX might be the biggest on the portable vaporizer market today! Regardless of how much dry herb you pack into the chamber, get ready for quite a lot of vapor extraction with the conduction and convection heating elements.

Boundless CFX Conduction style heating

Conduction style ovens are hit or miss in the cannabis vaporizer community, as some believe that because it is always on and wastes potential vapor while not being inhaled. As well, at times, conduction can lead to less overall vapor. The Boundless CFX Vape takes that from the equation with a massive 80W power supply to the heating element that cranks vapor production up to eleven. As well as this, it uses some elements of a convection to smash your cannabis with heat. As a result of this, there will be a decline in vapor quality over the first few hits you take as your cannabis is literally blasted with heat. Connoisseurs will either love the vapor production or dislike the terpene flavor profile depending on unique preferences. However, for small concentrate doses with the included accessory, the oven will work well for your wax.

Vapor Quality on the CFX Vape

The CFX from Boundless vapes uses hybrid heating, which means it heats your dry herbs or concentrates with a combination of both convection and conduction heat. This hybrid heating gives you the best of both worlds and delivers tasty, flavorful rips just about every time. The path that the vapor travels down is both ceramic and stainless steel, but the steel part of the device does not detract from the flavor quality. Although there was a lot of thought put into the heating elements, chamber, and ease of use, the vapor quality is where it begins to differ away from the Mighty+ Vape.

At the max temperature of 220°C / 428°F, you’ll be able to have seriously massive clouds at the cost of very hot vapor. If you’re into big clouds, you might want to pick up a CFX Glass Mouthpiece to help cool the vapor.

With an 80W heating element, you don’t necessarily have to go to max temperatures, though, as a small preheat around 380F° will also give you good clouds without any scorching.

Boundless CFX Battery Life

The Boundless CFX comes with two interchangeable 2500 mAH lithium batteries that are some of the most powerful and longest-lasting that you’ll find. The Boundless CFX takes about 2 to 3 hours to charge up fully, and a single charge lasts around 90 minutes of continuous vaping. Most users get at least ten full sessions out of their CFX in a single charge, and some even report getting up to 15 full vape sessions. These numbers are pretty impressive from the CFX from Boundless vaporizers. This unit performs just as well when put up against just about every other portable vaporizer on the market today.

When comparing it to the Crafty Vaporizer and the Mighty, the CFX has a more robust battery than the Crafty and holds its own even against the Mighty. The Mighty from German manufacturers Storz and Bickel do charge up more quickly than the CFX vaporizer, though. The digital display on the Boundless CFX is one of the brightest and biggest we’ve ever seen. This can either be a good or a bad thing, depending on your vaping preferences. As previously stated, this unit will not be very discreet due to its size, and the display is so bright that it is very noticeable, especially at nighttime. If you aren’t concerned about being discreet with your vape sessions, you’ll be fine and will probably love the display. The battery life display is pretty convenient to keep track of your battery life and know when you should charge the unit before it runs out on you halfway through a session.

Boundless CFX Tips and Tricks

  1. Although the Boundless CFX is pass-through charging capable, it’s not recommended as a variety of internet sources have stated over the years that it overall damages the battery.
  2. Once the CFX is done charging, it is best practice to unplug to prevent overcharging and diminishing the battery life as it doesn’t have the technology a smart phone does to optimize battery life
  3. Use a fine grinder: As the oven mainly relies on conduction to heat your dry herb, the more finely ground your herb is, the better vapor quality and extraction you’ll get. A high-quality grinder like the Cali Crusher will help you to get the most out of your sessions
  4. 380F° / 193°C is a great temperature to get a good mix of flavor and cloud production out of the CFX

Aesthetics and Manufacturing Quality

This herbal vaporizer is most definitely a hefty one, clocking in at about seven ounces, or 206 grams in weight. Its width is almost 3 inches, and it is about an inch and a quarter deep. The LCD is easy to read as well. Even though the CFX is made from plastic, it is not one of those cheap vapes made with flimsy plastic and is still durable. It shares the same rigged plastic design as the Crafty / Mighty, but the HD screen and buttons are nice to look at.

CFX Portability and Discreetness

The Boundless CFX vaporizer is definitely not the most discreet or portable category. It feels very solid in the hand with a ribbed plastic design, but the overall ruggedness and intuitive LED screen is a bit of an eyesore if you are trying to be discreet in public during a session. As your clouds are going to be generally massive, and as the convection use in the oven has a rugged odor, you will be caught out if you are trying to stealthily get a few puffs in. For this reason, we can recommend that you might need a carrying case for the CFX, especially if you are toting all of its accessories. How to Clean the Boundless CFX?

As the Boundless CFX relies on good airflow to get the most out of its conduction oven, it’s important to keep it as clean as you can after a session while the resin buildup will still be warm. Be sure to use the cleaning brush that comes with the portable vaporizer. If you let the unit get too cool before you try to clean it, you might have a bit of a tough time scraping some of the excess residue off of it if you are the type that might no clean enough. Take some cotton swabs dipped in isopropyl alcohol to the mouthpiece in order to remove bacteria from this portable vaporizer. If you want some handy cleaning tools that make your life easier, check out these vaporizer cleaning sticks from Tools420. You will never need to dip your Q-Tips in alcohol again.

Bottom Line

The CFX from Boundless vapes is a powerhouse. The vapor quality is great and it comes with some nice accessories. It is made of plastic though, which might detract some consumers. It is also not very discreet. Still, it holds up as one of the best dry herb portable vaporizers even today.
