The Firefly 2 Plus and the Crafty Plus from Storz and Bickel are two of the most popular and well-known premium convection vaporizers. Firefly 2 Plus vs Crafty Plus Ease of Use

The Crafty Plus from Storz and Bickel uses a medical-grade plastic cooling unit that covers the chamber and the Firefly 2 Plus uses a magnetic glass cover that covers the chamber. There really isn’t a clear cut winner as far as that goes, but the magnetic connection of the Firefly 2 Plus might wear down over time and the Crafty’s cooling unit will need to be replaced with time and long term use. To load these units you just remove the covers off, for the Crafty you twist the top off and for the FF2 plus gently take the magnetic cover off and load up your herbs inside the chambers.

The Storz and Bickel Crafty Plus is straightforward to turn on by just hitting the power button. The Firefly 2 Plus stays in standby mode and never actually turns off, and you have to hit the sensor buttons to heat it up. Both of these vapes are dually functional and can be used with both dry herbs and concentrates. They also both have auto-shutoff features. Both of these units are fairly easy to keep clean. Just take some isopropyl alcohol to the chambers and the mouthpiece after every session or two.

You will have to press more buttons and wait about 50 seconds for the Crafty to heat up. However, Firefly 2 Plus is pretty easy to use just hold the sensors and it will heat up in 5 seconds. This isn’t really hard to learn how to use the Firefly 2 Plus, but it will take newbies less time to get great vapor quality out of the Crafty right out of the box. The Firefly 2 Plus will attract consumers who like to experiment with temperature settings and looking for really good flavor, but the Crafty is more straightforward. The Crafty wins this one.

Firefly 2 Plus VS Crafty Plus Temperature Settings

Both of these portable vaporizers offer different temperature settings through their mobile apps. The Crafty allows for a precise temperature control that goes from 40°C/104°F up to 210°C/410°F but the Firefly 2+ allows you to control the temperatures per 5°C/10°F and caps out at 225°C/440°F for dry herbs and 255°C/500°F for vaporizing concentrates. With the boost mode on the Crafty, you have the option to choose a temperature from 1-50°C/34-122°F and boost your temperature to whatever you’ve selected as your boost temp. by pressing the On/Off button twice.

The Firefly 2+ goes higher than that, up to 255°C/500°F – making it better for vaping concentrates. Both of these vapes make it mandatory to use the app to get precision temperature control. Not every consumer wants to carry their phone around with them while vaping weed – especially if they’re out in nature and want to unplug. 

This was a bit of a drawback for us. The Crafty from Storz and Bickel takes about 2 minutes to heat up, which is pretty long in today’s vaporizer standards. The Firefly 2 Plus heats up almost instantly in about 5 seconds or so. We think the Firefly 2 plus with its temperature range going up to 255°C/500°F and its quick heat up time wins this round.

Heating System Comparison

The Crafty Plus uses a hybrid system which is a combination of convection and conduction but it mostly uses convection more than it uses the conduction system to vaporizer. The Firefly 2+ uses a full convection heating system. The Crafty offers very good vapor production and flavor and Firefly 2 Plus lacks a bit on the vapor production side but offers amazing smooth flavorful hits. So if you’re looking for smooth vapor and not so interested in visible vapor the Firefly 2 Plus does a really good job. Not that the Crafty’s flavor is bad, it is actually still one of the smoothest vapes on the market and very flavorful but in comparison to the Firefly 2 Plus the 2 Plus definitely produces better flavor.

You can fit 0.15 grams of dry herb into the Firefly 2 Plus. The Crafty can fit a quarter of a gram. The glass airpath on the 2+ can cause herbs to get stuck in the mouthpiece and reduce airflow, which isn’t ideal. Both of these units should be stirred halfway through a session to ensure that your herbs are cooked evenly. The instant convection heating of the Firefly 2+ is great for micro-dosing. The Crafty portable vaporizer still stands the test of time despite its plastic vapor path. The Crafty should win this round because it offers both flavor and great vapor production rather than only being good and one aspect of vaporization. It has a bigger chamber as well in comparison to the FireFly 2+.

Crafty Plus VS Firefly 2+ Vapor Quality

The Storz and Bickel Crafty portable vaporizer is the OG of excellent convection vapor quality. This unit stands the test of time – as most units from Storz and Bickel tend to do. The ceramic chamber and vapor path on the Firefly 2 Plus are great. However, the decision to add a plastic mouthpiece was puzzling. An addition of a different kind of mouthpiece could make the flavor and smoothness even better. The Firefly 2 Plus does have a more pure and smooth vapor flavor. But it is just a bit too complex when it comes to firing up and instantly getting delicious vapor. The Crafty delivers great vapor quality right out of the box and has been doing so for almost six years. For this reason, we give the vapor round to the Crafty.

Firefly 2 Plus Vs Crafty Plus Battery Life

The Firefly 2+ battery will last most consumers about an hour, or about five sessions. The charge-up time is fast, just about 45 minutes, as it comes with a USB 3.0 charging cradle. The battery on the Crafty from Storz and Bickel also lasts about an hour, and with the newest USB-C model, it takes about and hour and a half to fully charge. However, the Firefly 2+ doesn’t have pass-through charging but the Crafty does. The battery life round for these two portable vaporizers is a tie but the Firefly 2+ offers a replaceable battery which is the tiebreaker for this round.

Firefly 2 Plus vs Crafty Plus Manufacturing Quality

The ceramic chamber, borosilicate glass vapor path, and magnesium alloy finish on the Firefly 2 Plus are great. These components put it in a class of its own. The Storz and Bickel Crafty is shaped ergonomically shaped and durable, but it is a bit awkward in comparison to the 2+. The fact that the Crafty is made of essentially plastic material shows its age. The Crafty looks more like a power tool than a sexy portable vaporizer. That said, the Crafty is a Storz and Bickel product – so obviously it isn’t poorly or cheaply made at all. However, the Firefly 2 Plus gets the win because it just looks sexier and features more premium build materials.

Portability and Discreetness

The 2+ is five inches high and weighs in at about five ounces. The Crafty is about 4.5 inches high and weighs about 4.75 ounces. There isn’t much odor from vaping weed with the 2+, and even less when using the device with concentrates. Since the Crafty is a powerhouse, there is more odor from vaping weed. However, the Crafty has a built-in stir tool. This and the fact that the Crafty produces excellent vapor with minimal effort gives this classic convection vape the win here in this round.

Kit Comparison

The 2+ comes with a rechargeable battery, a USB 3.0 cable, and dock, 1 liquid pad for concentrates, 3 isopropyl wipes for cleaning and a 2-year warranty. 

The Crafty comes with a USB charger, a filling tool, a grinder, a cleaning brush, a pad for vaping liquid concentrates, three extra screens and additional rings that seal the unit. It also comes with a 2-year warranty. 

To us, it seems that the Crafty is a better overall package. This is because it includes a grinder, which is an essential accessory. For that reason, we’ll have to give this round to the Crafty Vaporizer.

Firefly 2 Plus vs Crafty Plus Review Conclusion

This was a pretty close matchup, with both of these premium portable vaporizers having great qualities. The Firefly 2 Plus features more top-shelf components like an all-glass vapor path and a magnesium alloy finish. The vapor is also a bit purer. 

However, the Crafty Plus is one of the best portable vaporizers ever made for a reason. You can easily take it out of the box and get exceptional vapor quality right away. Even after all these years, this makes it a winner. Even someone who has never touched a vaporizer could figure out how to get top-notch vapor quality from the Crafty. The Crafty sneaks out the narrow win!
