G Pen Dash vs Utillian 421 – Which vaporizer to buy?

As two of the best budget dry herb vaporizers on the market, both the Utillian 421 and G Pen Dash have a lot of great things going for them. In this review, we’ll be comparing and contrasting each vape’s key features to help you decide which vaporizer to buy.

421 vs Dash – Pros and Cons

The main difference between the two vaporizers is going to be the OLED screen on the Utillian 421 that will allow for easier precision temperature control when compared to the G Pen Dash’s three pre-set temperatures. The 421 will also give users control of the airflow with a shutter on the bottom, as well as an isolated airpath and glass stem that really separates its vapor quality from other budget dry herb vaporizers.

One thing the Dash does have going for it is its easy-load system thanks to the funnel design. Holding 0.15g, just slide a little of your favorite dry herb into the chamber, stamp it down, and you’ll be good to go in thirty seconds. The glass stem on the 421 is a great feature for a budget vape, but it requires a bit more time to unscrew it, load the sunken bowl, and then screw it back on.

Utillian 421 vs G Pen Dash – Portability and Discreetness

One of the biggest advantages the Dash has over the 421 is its sleek and portable design. While the 421 will still fit into most pockets, you’ll have to be a bit more careful with the glass stem mouthpiece. In terms of portability, the G Pen Dash has the advantage as it can easily fit into the palm of the hand with no parts of the vaporizer being shown to those around you. For the 421, the glass stem design won’t be as discreet in public as it doesn’t resemble a nicotine vaporizer, and as well the OLED screen being on top.

Utillian 421 vs G Pen Dash Vapor Quality

We personally found the vapor quality to be better on the 421 thanks mainly to the isolated air path and adjustable airflow. The glass stem mouthpiece has no taste compared to the plastic, as well as the fine metal filter is slightly more optimal for better airflow. One of the things that hold the Dash back is that despite the fast heating time, you’ll have to wait some additional time before you have access to respectable clouds. The 421 is much more optimized for any kind of grind thanks to the better filter and airflow through the straight-shot air path from the bottom of the vape, right through the chamber to the mouthpiece. In this sense, you’ll be able to get some convection THC extraction occurring during inhales. The 0.3g bowl will also allow you to get more overall clouds.

For the Dash, the screen and mouthpiece insert parts hurt the airflow of inhales. Since the oven is only .15g as well, you’ll have to wait sometime between inhales before the conduction cooks up some clouds.

421 vs Dash Battery Life

In terms of battery life, the 421 is the clear winner with a 2300mAh battery that will last you 90 minutes. The G Pen Dash only has a minuscule 950mAh battery that will only be good for 30-40 minutes of use.

Ease of use / How to use Comparison

When loading the chamber, simply remove the magnetic mouthpiece and load the funneled 0.2g stainless steel chamber. After that, snap back the mouthpiece on. To use the G Pen Dash, just press the power button five times in a row and it will begin heating to your last set temperature. The three pre-set temperatures can be seen by the blue, green, and red lights on the vape and correspond to 190/205/220C, or 375/401/428F. Depending on the heat, it will heat up in between 30-40 seconds and will vibrate to let you know when it has reached the set temperature.

To use the Utillian 421, start by unscrewing the glass mouthpiece counterclockwise to reveal the 0.3g ceramic chamber. After filling with a medium-fine grind, screw the mouthpiece back on and press the power button down for five seconds. It will automatically begin heating to the last set temperature. With a variable temperature range of between 180°C – 230°C / 356°C – 446°C, this can be adjusted in increments of 10 Celsius by holding the power button down until you get to the temperature you want.

The 421 is easier to clean

For the G Pen Dash, the main two components to keep clean will be the oven chamber, and the mouthpiece and its insert. To begin the process, first remove the mouthpiece to access the chamber. Use vape cleaning sticks to remove any sort of resin buildup in the oven. For the mouthpiece, remove the rubber gasket holding the screen in place, and then poke out the metal screen. After that, pull out the ceramic mouthpiece insert and spiral from the rubber gasket. These three pieces excluding the rubber can be soaked in isopropyl alcohol for ten minutes before a gentle scrub and hot water rinse. Before placing everything back together, make sure that everything is dry, and that the mouthpiece insert is aligned with the mouthpiece cap otherwise it won’t go in all the way.

To clean the 421, all you’ll need is the same alcohol Q tips to remove any buildup on the screen, in the glass stem, or in the oven. Before turning the vape back on, just make sure that everything is fully dry. If you’re finding that the mouthpiece’s thread is getting gunked up, you can use

Utillian 421 tips and tricks

As the glass stem on the 421 is very close to 10mm, it will be compatible with most 10mm vaporizer bubblers and bong adapters. Our personal favorite is to use it with the DynaVap fat mouthpiece and the 14mm whip bubbler. Let the vape heat up at the max 230C / 446F temperature for thirty seconds after it has reached temperature before ripping massive clouds that is sure to floor even the most battle-worn of vaping connoisseurs. Another nice thing about the great airflow and well-designed ceramic will allow for good vapor production for the purpose of microdosing.

As the Dash’s mouthpiece is not compatible with any kind of bubbler accessories, you’ll be limited to mainly using the red heating mode for the best vapor quality. While you’ll be able to microdose, as previously mentioned, the oven will take some time before your dry herb is actually ready for an inhale.

Conclusion

To conclude this Utillian 421 vs G Pen Dash review, we’ll give the final nod to the Utillian 421 for its higher ease of use and vapor quality. While the G Pen Dash is more portable, its cheaper manufacturing quality holds it back from competing with the slightly more expensive Utillian.
