Should you upgrade to the Arizer Air Max?

With the recent release of the Arizer Air Max, you may be wondering if it’s time to upgrade to the 3rd generation vaporizer. With an upgraded battery, user interface, and ceramic heating element, there is a lot to love, but is it worth it? In this dry herb vaporizer review, we’ll be comparing and contrasting the Arizer Air 2 to the Air Max in terms of key features to help you decide if it’s worth the upgrade or not.

Arizer Vaporizer Key Features

With upgrades on the Air Max in regards to a larger ceramic heater and battery, the Air Max has been upgraded to a better hybrid (convection and conduction) ripper that has earned one of the top spots on our list of the best portable dry herb vaporizers. With the larger heating element, you’ll be able to get massive clouds from the same stainless steel oven that the Air 2 has. We’ll explain how that works later on in this review.

With the Air Max’s upgraded user interface, you’ll now be able to change more settings like adjustable screen brightness, session timers, countdown timers, sound alerts, and the option of booting to a dark mode as well. In short, there is significantly more session customization, let alone with the included 14mm water pipe adapter which will give you bong tokes right out of the box.

Improved Air Max Ceramic Heater

Each Arizer vaporizer uses a hybrid heating system, meaning a mixture of conduction (hot heating element) and convection (hot air). This means you’ll be able to get a good and even roast of the dry herb you have loaded into the glass stem’s chamber.

Where the two devices differ is the slightly larger donut ceramic heating element that the Air Max has. The four convection air intake ports in the stainless steel chamber are now slightly bigger and angled allowing for better airflow and convection heating as it passes through the weed loaded in the glass stem.

With the improved heater, your stainless steel will stay hotter in between hits. This means you’ll be able to get better back-to-back hits on the MAX thanks to not having a decrease in stem temperature with the bigger heating element below it, as well as the better airflow which can better heat up your dry herb.

Arizer Air Max Size Increase

With the upgrade to a 26650 battery from an 18650, the size of the Air Max has increased significantly from 116g to 170g. Overall, neither vape is going to be the most portable thanks to the need for having a loaded glass stem chamber unless you choose to load your weed out in public like a psychopath. For this reason, it’s going to be a good idea to pick up a vape-carrying case that will help you keep everything you need in one convenient spot. The Air Max especially won’t be good to fit into most pockets since it weighs close to one-third of a pound.

Arizer Air Max vs Air 2 Vapor Quality

When comparing the vapor quality at face value, each vape will work quite similarly. The only real changes are to the four air intake ports which have been slightly increased in size as well as angled to allow for better access from the sides of the vape and up into the chamber. Since the heating system works with a ceramic donut heating element right below the stainless steel oven, and the Air Max sports a larger one, it will be able to offer you better THC extraction during sessions. Airflow does feel overall slightly better though, and you’ll be able to clear bowls faster, as well as get bigger hits with the improved convection.

Arizer Air Max Battery Upgrade

One of the best upgrades to the 3rd generation Air Max over the Air 2 is the 5000mAh battery upgrade over the 3400mAh / 18650 spec the older model had. With this change, you’ll now be able to get up to 2 hours and 15 minutes of battery life, including a USB-C charging port.

On the Air 2, the 18650 battery would last you up to 90 minutes of use, and be able to charge in about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Overall, if the increase in battery life isn’t enough to convince you – You have to think in terms of versatility. The 26650 battery will be able to last you longer while being able to provide you with USB-C battery bank charging which can be used with pass-through use, as well as just being able to swap the battery.

Arizer Air Max vs Air 2 Ease of Use

To turn the Air Max on, press and hold the M and + buttons until the countdown has finished. You can then use + and – arrows on the right side of the vaporizer to set your desired temperature between 50° – 220° Celsius / 122° – 428° Fahrenheit. After a sixty-second to seventy-second heat-up time, a beep will let you know that your temperature has been reached. Once you’re done with your session, you can then press and hold the m button until the vape turns itself off.

For this section, the only real difference is that the Air 2 works by pressing the m and down button, and will have a slower heat-up time of a full two minutes. There is now also a dark mode on the Air Max which will help you use it more discreetly at night, but this is a feature that’s useless to most people.

How to Clean Arizer Vaporizers?

The two Arizer‘s are almost the exact same for this category. For light cleaning, we recommend picking up some vape cleaning Q-tips which will help you clear out your chamber and stay on top of light resin buildups.

Best Arizer Air 2 / Air Max tips and tricks

To help the smaller bowl, we recommend a finer grind that will better utilize your cannabis. However, if you do this, you’ll have to use the screen in the glass stem to prevent any fine herb from going up into the stem through the air holes. Regardless of your grind preference, make sure that you don’t overpack or the hybrid heating won’t work, and you’ll have increased draw resistance. Our personal favorite bong setup is to use the 14mm whip bubbler.

Warranty

The Air Max carries a lifetime warranty on the heating elements, and a limited 2-year warranty covering defects in materials or workmanship, excluding battery. Glass won’t be covered, so make sure that you’re using a carrying like the Tools420 Storage Bag!

Conclusion

To conclude the review, the answer is yes, we do recommend picking yourself up the Air Max over the Air 2. The much-increased battery life that remains swappable with a new USB-C port that will enable battery bank pass-thru charging. The addition of a 14mm water pipe adapter with screen inversion help boost the vape’s versatility along with the new dark screen mode that will enable use with a barely visible screen with only shapes as displayed information. With the matte black design, it is very discreet to use in public and the massive battery increase is a very welcome upgrade to the Air lineup.
