Arizer Air Max vs. Mighty Plus – Which to buy?

If you’ve been looking for a portable dry herb vaporizer upgrade, you’ve probably recently come across the Mighty+ and Arizer Air Max as top options. Arizer Air Max vs. Mighty Plus Key Features

Off the bat, the main difference between these two vaporizers is the chamber of the Mighty Plus that works with a twist-off cooling unit mouthpiece compared to the classic Arizer glass stem mouthpiece design. The Air Max’s chamber at the bottom of its mouthpiece works with some small air intake ports and can be filled with about 0.2g of a medium ground dry herb. If you use a fine grind, you risk the chance of having some of your dry herb going through the small holes and up into the mouthpiece, as well as risking blocking the airflow.

For the Mighty+, the new chamber has been upgraded to be ceramic lined and can be filled with up to 0.3g of any kind of ground dry herb, or with a 0.25g aluminum dosing capsule. A dosing capsule makes portability a breeze, which we’ll touch on later in the review.

Heating System Comparison

As hybrid-heated dry herb vaporizers, both will work with conduction (hot heating element), and convection (hot airflow) that will help to evenly cook your dry herb. On the Arizer Air Max, beneath the stainless steel oven is a donut-shaped ceramic heating element. On the Air Max, this heating element is slightly larger and the four airports for it are slightly angled to allow for better airflow and less draw resistance. For its maximum temperature of 428F/ 220C, you can expect about eighty seconds of heat-up time.

With the Mighty+ hybrid heating system, the whole body of the vape is a spiraling isolated air path that is heated externally by the heater, making the air taken from the bottom of the vaporizer gradually heat up as it rises towards your dry herb. Any conduction going on is going to be from residual heat from the fine metal screen and ceramic chamber as the hot air rises towards it. For its maximum temperature of 410F / 210C, you can expect about sixty seconds of heat-up time.

Is the Arizer Air Max or Mighty Plus more portable?

With the larger battery and ceramic heater on the Air Max, the size of the vape has increased from its older model, the Arizer Air 2. It now weighs 170g compared to the older model’s 116g. As the hollow lower part of the vape had to expand to hold the new and larger 26650 battery from the 18650, as a result, the Air Max few centimeters taller and wider compared to the Air 2. As the Air Max no longer comes with a belt clip carrying case, you’ll have to pick up something like a 420 vape case to help you with its portability. For easier travel with the Air Max, you’ll want to have a glass stem already loaded, otherwise, you’d have to take out your grinder and glass stem separately to load the chamber. While it isn’t the most discreet design, with the new included dark mode and screen brightness settings you’ll be able to get stealthy sessions in at night.

The Mighty+, although it’s the king of the portable dry herb vaporizers category, is one of the biggest portables around. Coming in at 5.5 x 1.2 x 3.2 inches and 0.5lb / 230g, it’s barely going to be able to fit into most pockets. While you might be able to get by with four dosing capsules in a 420 storage keychain, if you’re a connoisseur that likes to take their accessories with them on the go, you’ll want to get a more durable vape carrying case like the Stashlogix Silverton.

Can you use concentrates in either vaporizer?

While both vaporizers are made to be used with dry herb, they can both be used with concentrates with a sandwich method. This is done by placing a small bit of a dab between two clumps of dry herb and then having a session as normal.

With the Mighty+ dosing capsules though, you’ll be able to utilize this method much more effectively since the messiness of the dabs can be contained within the aluminum, which can then be easily cleaned afterward. This is a better option as opposed to the big resin buildups you’ll get on the Air Max’s glass stem and stainless steel chamber from using dabs.

A rule of thumb for the sandwich method is to not use anything too runny, which could risk it dripping down into the heating element and causing damage to your dry herb vape. For viscous liquids with the Mighty+, you’ll also be able to use the included mesh pad in the chamber at the highest temperature for good vapor production.

Arizer Air Max vs. Mighty Plus Vapor Quality Review

Air MAX vs Mighty+ Comparison – Heat-up time (0:00 – 1:45) and vapor quality comparison (1:50 – end)

Compared to its original model, the Mighty+ has a smaller heating unit, ut has allowed for more airflow around it. This means that despite the smaller heater, the better airflow allows your chamber to reach its set temperature in just sixty seconds as opposed to ninety. With larger air intake ports and a larger air pathway that is more isolated than the Air Max’s, the vapor quality is simply much better than the conduction heavy heating on the Arizer.

While we aren’t bashing the Air Max at all, its vapor taste and cloud production just simply don’t compare to the Mighty+’s. The air intake ports are on the side just below the chamber, and just above the conduction oven. This means the convection side of the vape’s heating system isn’t really isolated as the air travels just a few centimeters above the ceramic heating coil to the four air ports in the chamber – The stainless steel oven conduction oven does the heavy lifting for your THC extraction. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. With the improved ceramic heating element, it seems like the oven stays warmer in between hits. As the Mighty+ and previous model of the Air 2 are prone to drastic losses in temperature, as you can see on the temperature display of the Mighty+, there is a short waiting period you’ll have to take to get back-to-back big hits in. With the Air Max, it really stays super hots and works to evenly cook your medium grind well. With the added bonus of having an included 14mm WPA, you’ll be able to use it with a dry herb vape bong right out of the box.

Overall, despite these pros on the Air Max, the Mighty+’s much better draw resistance, bigger chamber, and more convection-based heating do offer the better vapor quality, especially since you’ll be able to choose any kind of grind you want.

Battery Life Comparison

On the Mighty+, the two side columns are what house the two lithium-ion batteries, which are each 3300mAh. For the Air Max, it uses a swappable 5000mAh battery.

For the Mighty+, you’ll be able to get about an hour and a half to two hours of use before needing a recharge via a provided USB-C cable. One downside is that the kit does not come with an included fast charger kit, so you’ll have to purchase one 75w or up separately to have access to the lowered charging time of just one hour from the three that the included USB to USB-C charging cable provides.

For the Arizer Air Max battery life, you’ll be able to get two hours and 15 minutes of use before needing a recharge with the included USB-C port which will take roughly three hours.

This category comes down to preference to decide a winner. Since the Arizer battery is swappable, it’s a huge benefit, but the battery is not as well optimized for heat-up times, so the total time spent vaping your dry herbs will be about the same for each vape. The Mighty+ fast charging is a huge benefit, but again, you’ll have to be willing to spend the extra bit of cash after your order.

Arizer Air Max vs. Mighty Plus – Ease of Use

Since we already went over how each chamber works, this section will be focused on the difference in the user interface.

The Arizer Air Max has a slightly tweaked screen that has placed the buttons on either side of the vape. To turn the vape on, you’ll hold the M and Up button down until the countdown timer has finished. Once the vape is on and you’ve tweaked the temperature with either the up or down buttons, it will automatically begin heating up. With a wide temperature range of 50° – 220° Celsius / 122° – 428° Fahrenheit, there will be a temperature that everyone will be able to appreciate and the glass stem mouthpiece and screen are both super easy to use even for beginners.

And in the other corner – the Mighty+. As the only certified medicinal vaporizer in the market, this was a vaporizer that had a true medicinal first approach to it. With a very bright LCD screen, big orange up and down arrow, and power button, everything about this vape is easy to understand. Once you press the power button, it will automatically begin heating to the last set temperature, and then vibrate when it has reached temperature and is ready to be inhaled from.

The only real difference in ease of use is in with bongs. Since the Arizer Air Max screen will invert when upside down, it’ll be a bit easier to use when on a bong. For bubblers, Arizer models are also a bit easier since they come with the same chamber for the oven, as opposed to having the thread them down in place of the cooling unit on the Mighty. However, you’ll be able to pick up a Mighty 14mm Bong Adapter just like the one in the Arizer kit for fun sessions in something like a 14mm whip bubbler.

Cleaning Comparison

For cleaning the Mighty+ vs Arizer Air Max, the main difference is going to be the Mighty’s cooling unit which has different compartments to open during thorough cleanings. As long as you are knocking out debris out of each vape’s chamber after every session, you’ll be able to keep residue to a minimum with the occasional vape alcohol wipe. On the Mighty+, about once a month it will be time for a thorough cleaning though which can be done by separating the three main parts of the cooling unit beginning with the latch and pulling off the straw of the mouthpiece. Once you’ve removed all of the parts, remove the O-Rings, and submerge everything in isopropyl alcohol for thirty minutes before a hot water rinse, drying, and putting back together.

For the Air Max, you’ll begin to notice some yellowing on the mouthpiece with use. When this happens, it’ll be time for an isopropyl alcohol soak as well, and then a hot water rinse.

Warranty

For the Air Max warranty, you’ll have a 2-year coverage that will help against manufacturer defects, excluding accidental damage. You’ll want to be careful with the glass stems as they can shatter easily and aren’t covered against accidental damage.

Storz & Bickel will provide up to two years of manufacturer’s warranty against defects or up to three years upon registration of your Mighty+.

Arizer Air Max vs. Mighty Plus Review Conclusion

In conclusion, while the Mighty+ does offer slightly better vapor quality, there is a lot to love about each vaporizer’s kit. Whether you want the simplicity of the classic glass stem design in the Air Max, or the medicinal and user-friendly design of the Mighty+ is totally up to you. As for us, we do think the Mighty+ does edge out the Arizer thanks to the faster heat-up time and fast charging. It does come at a slight increase in price though for some of the accessories that boost its quality like the fast charger and bong adapters, but you’ll also need upgrades like a spare 26650 on the Air Max as well.
