Should you buy the Dabtech Duvo X?

DabTech is a relatively new Electric Dab Rig company out of L.A. and has been slowly growing in popularity, especially the DabTech Duvo X!

Using the base design of The Core 2.1, they’ve added their own touches to create a unique experience.

Because of the simple design of this E-Rig, there are not a whole lot of places to screw up a session, so let’s get into it and explain why this is a great choice for beginners.

3D Ceramic Atomizer

There are four pre-set temperatures to choose from on the 3D rebuildable V5 atomizer:

  • Blue – 400F – 12 Second Pre-Heat
  • Green 425F – 13 Second Pre-Heat
  • White 465F – 18 Second Pre-Heat
  • Red 500F – 23 Second Pre-Heat

The lower temperatures will be better for flavor and more relaxed sessions, while the higher temperatures hit like a chimney in session mode, but do risk the chance of burning your dab if you’re not paying attention.

Solid Vapor Quality

I really enjoyed almost all settings of the DuvoX, but that’s just because my preferences are low temperatures full of flavors from my live rosins that I use with my E-Rigs!

  • Duvo does warn that back-to-back sessions will run the temperature in the chamber higher than listed, and the 80-second session timer is going to be pretty long for beginner users.

I can definitely see dabbing connoisseurs or people who are converting from bangers and dab torches to appreciate the high temperature of red on the session mode. While this can’t quite compete with the 635°F and one-minute timer of the Carta 2 by Focus V, it’ll definitely be strong enough to be considered one of the best e-rigs in the market.

What concentrates can it vape?

The Duvo X is best suitable for full melt hash, live resin, and live rosin, as well as high percentage THC concentrates like diamonds or sauce.

With a Vaporizer like this, you’re better off using high-quality concentrates that will work better with a low temperature as well as them giving you amazing terpene flavors that wax and shatter simply can’t offer at the same level.

Again, this E-Rig won’t be able to give you the biggest clouds, but more consistent and flavorful sessions thanks to its 3D atomizer.

Is the Duvo X portable?

As I get more experience in the industry, I’ve begun to appreciate when manufacturers put more effort into their product’s durability.

For the Duvo X’s design, the metallic E-Rig is a much better option than glass for most people, the bubbler is very secure in its O-Ring seal, and the silicone vape sleeve is a nice touch that will prevent fall damage in case of a drop.

Long-Lasting Battery Life

With the same 3150mAh battery as many other E-Rigs these days, you’ll be able to get around 10 full sessions in before needing a recharge.

With USB-C charging, it uses slower charging than other models to preserve the proprietary lithium-ion battery, so a full charge will take an hour and 45 minutes. It’s not the worst, but sometimes it’s fun to have pass-through charging on your vaporizer.

Improving upon the Core 1.0

This is the second E-Rig model from DabTech and has built upon the design of The Core 1.0.

  • The atomizer is now 3D, rebuildable, and has a better battery capacity.

The bubble carb cap was swapped out for the metallic spinner carb cab which feels more sturdy than the Core 1.0’s that I have for reference.

How to use the Duvo X?

The instructions are a bit unclear and tell two different stories about what the pre-sets are, but in my experience, I think the written ones were correct since the red had a longer heat-up time.

  • Once your temperature has been reached, the DuvoX will stay hot for 80 seconds in the session mode.
  • For manual mode, it’s a bit more unclear what temperature the atomizer is because there isn’t haptic feedback or a flashing light that turns solid to indicate temperature has been reached.

Simply load in your dab with the kit’s included dab tool, and rip it once haptic feedback vibrates or your light turns solid.

Manual Mode

Commands to Know

  • Press the power button 5 times to run on the device
  • Load the atomizer with your cannabis concentrates
  • Press the power button 3 times to cycle through each of the 4 temperatures presets
  • Press the power button 2 times to start heating to your desired temp setting
  • The device will vibrate when it reaches the optimal temperature
  • You can press the power button at any time to end the session

Manual mode

  • Power up the device and Load up the atomizer the same way
  • Press and hold the power button for the length of your hit (just like with most oil vape pens)

DabTech Duvo X Tips and Tricks

  • Wait until the atomizer has cooled down from a session to clean out the chamber to prevent cracking
  • Spin the atomizer back and forth to add turbulence in the chamber for a more even dab extraction
  • If you overtighten this atomizer, it won’t work at maximum power – Simply tighten it loosely until you feel any kind of resistance
  • Make sure to inspect the atomizer connection about once a month to see if there is any resin to remove
  • Try giving the Utillian 8 Terp Pearls a try in the atomizer
  • Check out our picks of the Best Dab Stations to help your sessions stay organized

How to Clean the Duvo X?

You’ll be able to use vape cleaning wipes on almost every part to remove resin and grime. For the bubbler hole, you can use Vape Cleaning Sticks, as well as on the atomizer connections.

For the bubbler, you’ll be able to give the glass a quick soak or shake Orange Chronic for a few minutes before a hot water rinse-out. As always, let all parts fully dry before you use them again.

Community Consensus

A lot of the feedback I was able to find online was from people just appreciating the Puffco style of the bubbler.

  • DabTech is also happy to pass along savings to customers and has the unique angle of offering a one-year internal warranty excluding the bubbler.

Pros

  • Good flavor
  • Easy to use
  • Comfortable bubbler to use
  • Easy to maintain and clean
  • Rebuildable atomizer if you are crafty
  • Unique bubbler upgrade available on their site
  • Cross-compatible with Core 1.0 and Core 2.1 parts

Cons

  • Owner’s manual is a bit confusing
  • Heavy users might prefer higher-temperature E-Rigs
  • Not as easy to use as the Utillian 8

Who’s it for?

The DabTech is great for beginners who want a straightforward E-Rig without too many bells and whistles – It offers reliable sessions in an affordable kit.

Who’s it not for?

The DuvoX is not for people who will enjoy perfecting their sessions with accessories or settings as you can do on the Dr. Dabber Switch.

Dr. Dabber Switch vs. Duvo X

The Dr. Dabber Switch by far is the most customizable E-Rig on the market but also features a massive battery life and 25 pre-set temperatures to mess around with.

With the Switch, it uses cup inserts by Dr Dabber which will all have a unique performance due to their heat conductivity ratings.

With the DuvoX, the atomizer compatibility is limited to Crossing Tech atomizers and the same four pre-set temperatures between 400-500F. The Switch on the other hand has a temperature range of 300 – 800° F / 149- 427° C, as well as cross-compatibility with flowers thanks to the ‘switch’ which will optimize the temperatures for either flowers or concentrates.
