G Pen Roam Video Review

Is the G Pen Roam worth it?

While G Pen had a mixed reputation in the beginning, they’ve since put out some unique and very innovative vapes like the G Pen Connect and G Pen Elite 2.

The new G Pen Roam is an interesting new wax pen / E-rig that packs in a lot of features. A spill-proof bubbler, quartz atomizer, and compact design are some of its marketing traits.

How does the G Pen Roam Quartz Tank work?

The G Pen Roam vibrates when it has heated up fully and takes roughly 15 seconds to get up to speed. It’s a good-sized bowl, you can put reasonably large dabs in there relatively to most wax pen vaporizers, however, you still can’t load giant chunks of wax like you could a regular dab rig.

The premium material for dab rigs and wax hits, it makes use of a quartz atomizer which imparts no flavor onto your wax. Pure and clean, as long as you keep on top of maintenance you can enjoy a true terpene profile, especially at low temperatures.

How’s the G Pen Roam Vapor Quality?

Quartz and borosilicate glass, it’s clear that the engineers at Grenco are paying attention to what the community really wants. Depending on the temperature you’ve chosen, you’ll be able to enjoy a range of hits from smooth and tasty all the way to rich and cloudy.

While we wouldn’t say it’s at all the best wax vape for flavor or clouds, it’s very solid and we struggle to find any weak points about it. In fact, it’s definitely better than a wax hit without water filtration and the integrated bubbler is a major strong point.

Taking a hit is simple, airflow restriction is regular, and it’s very simple to use when passing around in groups.

Is the G Pen Roam easy to use?

With two distinct heating modes, you have some good versatility to decide on how you want to hit it. After loading the atomizer up with a rice-grain-sized amount or less of wax, then you’ll be ready to rip!

Throw it into automatic which will leave the atomizer at a set temperature for 30 seconds before it’ll automatically shut off. This is ideal for group sessions and passing around without worrying about instructions or complicated steps.

The manual mode will only engage and warm up the heater only when you hold the button down. For personal use and for a quick hit, this is likely the best way to go. It’ll be more efficient with material and lead to tastier rips.

Alternatively, you can set it to Max mode which will boost the temperature to the maximum (800°F/425°C) for those monster clouds and powerful dab rig-like hits.

The G Pen Roam has a temperature range of 600°- 800°F (315°- 425°C) for you to toy with, adjustable in 25°F increments. This is more than enough, though we do wish the lowest setting were a touch smaller for those real terpy dabs, though you can just hit it before its done heating up if you want that.

Cleaning

Cleaning the G Pen Roam isn’t too difficult, but it’s important to stay on top of maintenance. The atomizer can be removed easily and you should take a swab dipped in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol to tidy it up. The bubbler should be filled with some iso for around 15 minutes, shake gently to help clean it of any residue.

Ensure you keep on top of maintenance and clean it after a day of heavy use or a few sessions to keep the taste and performance as its best.

G Pen Roam Battery Life

You get a 1300mAh cell to work with which truthfully isn’t that huge. With that being said, you can certainly get over 10 sessions from a single charge, and it charges rapidly in around an hour and a half with the included Micro-USB cable. A nice benefit that the G Pen Roam has is pass-through charging. If you’ve run out of juice but are near a socket and have the cable nearby, simply plug it in and enjoy! You can vape and charge at the same time, a handy feature to have, especially if with a group of friends.

Is the G Pen Roam portable?

Certainly it’s quite a bit bigger than your regular wax pen, however those don’t have a water filter bundled inside. A bit bigger than your average box mod vape, it’s quite portable but will struggle to fit into some pockets. Bonus that water won’t spill out no matter what you do!

The matte black design is stealthy and doesn’t really bring much attention to itself. Sure it’s not quite as stealthy as something like the Utillian 2, however the extra carry weight is certainly worth it to us as it’s a significant step up over the standard wax vape experience.

G Pen Roam Build Quality

Grenco Science, the team behind G Pen has had a shoddy reputation at the beginning. Their early units weren’t quite up to snuff and developed animosity as a result. With that begin said, their more recent devices are a big step up in terms of innovation and quality and it seems that they’ve actually listened to the community.

They include a 1 year warranty which is par for the course and should cover you if any defects come up. Replacement parts are plentiful which is handy in case your atomizer burns out or you accidentally damage any pieces.

It’s a bit on the expensive side so it’s a toss up if you’d prefer a true dab rig like the Focus V Carta 2 or Core 2.1 E-Rig.

Who should buy the G Pen Roam?

If you’re a big concentrates enthusiast or want a solid dedicated wax vaporizer, then it’s a good pick. A good blend of portability and performance, you can enjoy a dab rig experience without the size and bulk associated with it, while improving on the generic wax pens found everywhere.

If you want an ultra-discreet wax pen or a rig capable of huge clouds, then you might want to look elsewhere. It’s right down the middle and a nice balance between the two, fusing features found on each vape category.

The G Pen Roam is not compatible with dry herb, only with concentrates like wax, live resin, rosin, shatter, BHO, and others.

G Pen Roam Review Conclusion

We’re really impressed with the engineering and implementation of the G Pen Roam. While there are still some improvements we’d like to see made (particularly with the battery) and a lower price, it’s fairly impressive and not a bad buy at all. For what it is though, it is a bit on the pricy side – Not quite a dab pen, and not quite an E-Rig. For a cheaper and perhaps even better alternative, we’d recommend checking out a Utillian 5!
