Is the XMAX Qomo worth buying?

Since being released in late 2020, the XMAX Qomo has been getting dab-tactic feedback (see what I did there?) for its overall kit value and super-portable design.

At this price point, the case to buy XMAX Qomo comes down to its portability, simple controls, and ability to pack a water-filtered E-Rig experience into a very small package.

In this review, we’ll be going over the E-Rig’s key features and comparing them with similar Wax Pens and other concentrate vaporizers to help you decide whether it’s worth picking up for yourself.

Is the XMAX Qomo portable?

With the bubbler on, the height is just below five inches and it weighs less than a pound. You can take this bad boy anywhere! With a durable matte aluminum body, you’ll be able to get sessions in public done relatively discreetly, as you can conceal most of the rig in the palm of your hand.

At just under five inches tall, the Qomo is much closer to wax-pen territory while still retaining some of the qualities you’d expect from a larger E-Rig like the Core 2.1.

If the Qomo’s compact size appeals to you but you want more cooling, battery life, or overall performance, it may be worth comparing the wider selection when you shop electric dab rigs.

XMAX Qomo Vapor Quality

The stock XMAX Qomo Atomizer is a ceramic bucket atomizer with three temperature settings, a 10-second preheat, and a 20-second session cycle. Since the temperatures are on the hotter side, the Qomo is more optimized to give you bigger clouds over flavor. However, there is also a quartz atomizer upgrade available for better flavor from your dabs.

For the price, you’ll be hard-pressed to find better overall performance from an E-Rig or dab pen. Out of the three temperatures (white, green, and red), we preferred the second or third. The first seems to be made mainly for flavor chasing, as there wasn’t much vapor production.

The atomizer’s performance was best with rice-sized dabs so that there was no pooling or burning. With long and slow inhales, you’ll be able to get hot air running through the chamber that will help heat your concentrate. Short sips just won’t work as well on this device.

The bubbler doesn’t hold that much water or provide much cooling, so your vapor will be somewhat harsh like a bong hit.

For its affordable price, the vapor quality is impressive, but understandably it isn’t comparable to the models on our list of the best E-Rigs.

What types of concentrates does it use?

You’ll be able to vaporize your favorite kinds of concentrates like rosin, wax, and shatter in the Qomo’s ceramic cup with the included dab tool. In my personal experience, it will work best with harder concentrates like shatter, crumble, and sugar wax, since they will melt better than products like live resin in the powerful atomizer.

XMAX Qomo Battery Life

One of the nicest features of the XMAX Qomo is its USB-C charging. Although the 1350mAh battery isn’t particularly large, USB-C charging makes it convenient to recharge, with a full charge taking roughly 90 minutes.

Depending on your dabbing preferences, you’ll be able to get as many as 20 sessions before needing a recharge.

If you’re going to the maximum temperature from cold every time for more of a one-hitter-style session, the number of sessions could go down to as little as eight based on our experience.

Although it doesn’t sport pass-through charging or a swappable battery, most users will pick this vaporizer up for its ease of use and portability rather than its battery capabilities, so this isn’t a deal-breaker for most people. When the battery is low, the power button will flash ten times.

How to use the XMAX Qomo?

With a straightforward and easy-to-use design, the Qomo E-Rig comes equipped with a one-button user interface. The only two other moving parts are the bubbler and ceramic atomizer. You’ll be able to set the temperature between three voltage settings:

1. 3.3V – 536°F / 280°C – White
2. 3.7V – 608°F / 320°C – Green
3. 4.2V – 662°F / 350°C – Red

Here’s what a typical session looks like:

• First, turn the Qomo on by pressing the power button three times in a row.
• From there, swap between the three voltage settings by pressing the power button twice quickly.
• Once you’re at the right temperature, begin the heating process by pressing the power button once.

As far as the information display goes, you’ll see the heating process indicated as the bubbler flashes an orange light. Because of the way it’s set up, a cold load is much easier than hot loading. Just know that you might have to do two 10-second preheating periods if you’re using the lowest temperature.

As mentioned, the XMAX Qomo Bubbler doesn’t offer much cooling, so keep that in mind if you’re used to a premium E-Rig with more water filtration.

How to clean the XMAX Qomo?

The two main parts of the vaporizer that you’ll want to keep clean are the glass bubbler and the atomizer.

• Atomizer: Use a Vape Cleaning Stick to wipe out residue after every session. When you eventually end up chazzing the bottom of the atomizer, unthread it from the Qomo base and soak it in isopropyl alcohol for about 20 minutes. If anything is left afterward, you can carefully scrape away any remaining resin with a dab tool.
• Bubbler: When you begin to notice resin or hard-water staining, fill it with a small amount of Orange Chronic Glass Cleaner, give it a quick shake, and rinse it thoroughly with hot water afterward.

XMAX will cover your Qomo for up to six months after purchase for defects.

Final Thoughts

Seeing as how the XMAX Qomo is beginner-friendly, portable, and still very affordable for an entry-level E-Rig, we give it two thumbs up.

While there are a few things that hold it back, like the limited 1350mAh battery and relatively slow preheating process, there is a lot to love for the price.
