Puffco Plus Vaporizer Review

The Puffco brand doesn’t put out a ton of products, but when they do, they usually hit home runs. It looks like that should be the case with the Plus vape pen, which features a coil-free ceramic chamber, great vapor quality and a built-in tool for dabbing. Let’s dive into our Puffco Plus review and explore more about this solid wax pen.

If you are just getting your feet wet when it comes to wax pens, you will want to check out our Wax Pen Buyers Guide, which was recently updated.

Puffco Plus Vaporizer Key Features

  • Great Vapor Quality
  • Stylish, Durable Build
  • Delicious Flavor
  • Short Charge Up Time
  • Built-In Dab Tool

How to use the Puffco Plus?

If you’ve used a wax pen before, you shouldn’t have any issues using the Puffco Plus right out of the box. It’s built similarly to what you’re used to with vape pens but it does have some features that raise the bar in comparison to some less expensive wax pens. Just like most pens, you get the chamber, the battery, and the mouthpiece.

Operating the unit requires pressing only one button, and scrolling through the three different temperature options will occur with four presses of the single button. There are wax pens available that have more temperature options, but three options are still a solid feature.

When you take off the mouthpiece, you will notice a small white tool that the Puffco brand calls “the dart” and this is a very convenient way to load and consume concentrates. Sometimes with dab tools, the sticky wax is stubborn and tough to get off into the atomizer, but this is not the case with the Puffco pen. We were quite pleased with this. There is also a “sesh mode” which keeps the unit on for 12 seconds without needing to hold the button down manually. This was a great feature to use if you’re consuming socially with the Puffco Plus vape pen.

Puffco Plus How it Works

Puffco Plus Temperature Settings

There are three different temperature options with the Puffco Plus – green for low, blue for medium and white for high. We were a bit puzzled by the fact that the three temperature options aren’t clearly defined in the owner’s guide.

We did some digging and found what the three temperatures are on the Puffco website. The three temperatures are 580°F/ 304.44°C on low, 650°F/ 343.33°C on medium and 720°F/ 382.22°C on high. Some consumers will prefer higher temperatures, but we were rather pleased with the three options on the Puffco Plus.

Puffco Plus Ceramic Chamber

Even though there is only one kind of chamber with the Puffco Plus, we would take a coil-less ceramic chamber over a rod and coil atomizer just about every time. The ceramic chamber heats up concentrates nicely and evenly, and every draw is tasty and flavorful.

Puffco Plus Vapor Quality

The vapor quality on the Plus is exceptional, tasty and delicious. Every inhale was enjoyable, with very minimal harshness and no metallic flavor due to the coil-free ceramic chamber. The vapor quality is a noticeable upgrade of the Plus’ sibling, the Puffco Pro.

Big clouds will certainly not be something you get from the Puffco Plus, and the unit will certainly not be winning any awards for cloud production. This is due to the ceramic chamber heating concentrates more evenly than coil and rod atomizers, resulting in a smoother, tastier inhale from start to finish.

What is the Puffco Plus Battery Life?

The battery life on the Puffco Plus is noticeably lacking for its price. The size is 520mAh, which is smaller than we would have guessed for its cost. This will last maybe an hour, depending on how you like to vape.

It doesn’t take long to charge, however, about 45 minutes – which is a redeeming quality. The G Pen Micro+ costs about the same as the Puffco Plus, but its battery lasts about twice as long.

Aesthetics and Manufacturing Quality

Puffco is a premium brand and the build quality of its devices reflects that reality. Everything works well with the Plus, as we have come to expect from the Puffco brand. The Plus’ bigger sibling the Puffco Peak dab rig is also built exceptionally well, so it doesn’t surprise us that the metallic finish of the Plus is durable and well-made.

The “dart” dab tool sets the Plus apart from other wax pens. While other units like the Utillian 5 come with dab tools, we really have yet to see one like the Plus. The Plus is more of a pen style, while the Slick is almost like a small microphone. It comes down to your personal preference as far as what kind of vape you like to hold.

Manufacturing Quality

Is the Puffco Plus portable?

As you would expect with a vape pen, the Plus is highly portable and fits easily into any pocket. Since there isn’t a ton of vapor production with this device, it can also be pretty discreet because there is a minimal amount of odor. This becomes truer the cleaner your concentrates are.

Portability and Size

What’s in the Puffco Plus kit?

The Puffco Plus doesn’t come with a ton of accessories, but it doesn’t really need to. This device comes with cotton swabs for cleaning, a USB charger, and a silicone grip. The built-in “dart” dab tool should be mentioned again because it is a great accessory.

How to Clean the Puffco Plus?

Another great thing about the ceramic chamber is that it is easy to keep clean – all you really need to do is hit it with some cotton swabs dipped in isopropyl alcohol. There is no included carrying case with the Plus, and while it is durable enough to not have to worry about that – you might want to check out the water and wear-resistant Tools 420 carrying case.

Puffco Plus Review Conclusion

The build quality and the vapor quality are exceptional on the Puffco Plus. The convenient dart tool is the easiest kind of dab tool we have ever used. However, the Plus does have a short battery life, unclear temperature options and only has an option for one chamber. With that in mind, the ceramic chamber is excellent, so that wasn’t an issue for us. Whether you are vaping wax, shatter, crumble or live resin, the vapor quality is delicious and smooth every time.

If you want bigger clouds, more accessories and a long battery life, you will want to look elsewhere – perhaps at a unit like the Utillian 5 v3. However, the vapor quality on the Puffco Plus is second to none.

Interesting that the review on your highest-rated vape, the Utilion 5, states that the battery lasts about 1 hour. In the review for the Puffco Plus vape, you state that the battery lasts about an hour, and if you want a longer-lasting battery, get the Utilion 5! This battery life issue needs to be clarified. Thanks.

Hi Deborah, the battery will last between 45 min – 1 hour of use depending on voltage and sessions lengths. I’ve updated the product pages to reflect that. Thanks for the feedback!
