Is the Puffco Plus worth it?
The Puffco brand doesn’t put out a ton of wax vaporizers, but they usually hit home runs when they do.
With stunning key features like a coil-free and fully ceramic chamber, tasty vapor quality, and a nifty integrated dab tool, there is a lot to love about the Plus at face value. Let’s take a deeper dive into the Puffco Plus to see if the performance matches its fantastic build quality on paper – With its premium price tag, is it worth all of these features?
We’ll be going over all this and more, so stay tuned.

What’s in the Puffco Plus kit?
The Puffco Plus doesn’t come with a ton of accessories, but it doesn’t need to. This device comes with:
- Cotton swabs for cleaning
- USB charger
- Silicone grip
- The built-in “dart” dab tool should be mentioned again because it is a great accessory
Puffco Plus Ceramic Chamber
Even though there is only one kind of Puffco Plus Atomizer, we would take a coil-less ceramic chamber over an exposed coil atomizer just about every single time.
The ceramic chamber heats up and concentrates nicely and evenly. Every draw is tasty and flavorful between all of the temperature settings.
I do have two main complaints here, though:
- The ceramic bucket chamber size is relatively small, so you can only load rice-sized grains of concentrates or less.
- The 20-second heat-up time is relatively slow compared to almost every other Wax Vaporizer on the market. It won’t be the best for heavy users.
Puffco Plus Temperature Settings
There are three different temperature options with the Puffco Plus:
- Green (low) – 580°F/ 304°C
- Blue (medium) – 650°F/ 343°C
- White (high) – 720°F/ 382°C
While heavy users will want to stick to the highest temperature, I was pretty happy with all three pre-set temperatures.
For different heating options, you can choose between manual or session modes. With manual heating, you’ll press and hold the power button while inhaling. For session mode, a double tap of the power button will heat the atomizer for 12 seconds at your set temperature.
- For beginners, I’d suggest sticking to the session mode until you get the hang of how the Plus works, as well as to see what your personal preferences might be.
Puffco Plus Vapor Quality
The vapor quality on the Plus is excellent and offers some of the best flavors in the wax pen market.
Every inhale was enjoyable and had minimal harshness on my throat. On top of that, there was no metallic flavor compared to exposed coil wax pens.
The Puffco Plus definitely can’t pump out the biggest clouds compared to some of the other wax pens.
The ceramic chamber is focused on smoothness and even dab extraction over everything else, but this results in a much slower heat transfer to the chamber than competitors.
Puffco Plus Alternatives
If you’re looking for overall massive dabs and instant heating, we can also suggest checking out the Utillian 5 V3 as another alternative for heavy concentrate users thanks to its heavy duty exposed coils.
For similar performance but improved battery specs, another alternative would be the G Pen Micro+ as its battery lasts about twice as long and uses the more universal USB-C charging, which is much more accessible for the majority of portable dabbing enthusiasts.
If you like the function and style of the Plus but want something a little more premium and harder hitting, then you might be interested in Puffco’s newest model, the Puffco Proxy Pipe. In short, it uses an advanced 3D ceramic chamber and modular glass design in a gentleman’s pipe design to crank out amazing sessions.
Is the Puffco Plus portable?
As you would expect from the pen-style design, the Plus is highly portable and fits easily into any pocket.
Since there is only a little vapor production with this device, it can also be used discreetly in public, especially since most concentrates have a smell, just like E-Juices. If you are paranoid about the smell, I suggest sticking to live resin or live resin. These concentrates’ smells will dissipate quickly compared to shatter or wax.
- Because there is no exposed charging port, I’d feel more comfortable bringing it to the beach where there’s sand.
As you might know, sand is coarse and rough, and it gets everywhere, including charging ports! As another small pro, the lack of a visible port and the chrome finish makes the device sleek and stylish.
As we’ll touch on later, the 520mAh battery is behind the times with a threaded USB charger. The limited battery life holds it back a bit, especially for heavy users.
How to use the Puffco Plus?
If you’ve used a wax pen before, you shouldn’t have issues using the Puffco Plus right out of the box.
It’s one of the easiest-to-use devices currently on the market.
When you take off the mouthpiece, you will notice a small white tool that the Puffco brand calls “the dart” and this is a very convenient way to load and consume concentrates. With this integrated dab tool, you’ll be able to scoop up your dab and then put the mouthpiece back onto the chamber. From there, let’s take a look at what a sample session might look like:
- Five presses of the power button will turn the unit on or off
- Four presses of the power button will cycle between the three temperatures
- Pressing and holding will activate manual heating
- Double pressing the power button will activate 12 seconds of heating
There are wax pens available that have more temperature options. However, three options are still a solid feature and give enough flexibility for most users to be happy.
Puffco Plus Tips and Tricks
- Stick to smaller dabs
- You’ll be able to clear the bowl after 2-3 big inhales
- Try not to do back-to-back sessions
- Keep your Plus upright during sessions to keep your dabs in the chamber
- Use the rubber grip for added durability
- If you’re not a fan of the integrated dab tool, an available upgrade would be the Puffco Hot Knife which will allow you to melt your dabs right into the chamber and not worry about any concentrate stickiness.
What is the Puffco Plus Battery Life?
The battery life on the Puffco Plus is one of the few weak spots of the Plus. The internal battery size is only 520mAh, which is smaller than we would have guessed for its premium cost. You’ll be able to get around six to ten sessions from rice-grain-sized dabs before needing a recharge.
The Puffco Plus charged very quickly in under 45 minutes – which is an excellent redeeming quality for the low mAh battery spec.
Aesthetics and Manufacturing Quality
Puffco is a premium Weed Vape brand, and the build quality of all of its devices reflects that reality. Everything works well with the Plus, as we expect from the Puffco brand. The Plus’ bigger sibling, the Puffco Peak dab rig, is also built exceptionally well, so it doesn’t surprise us that the metallic finish of the Plus is durable and well-made.
The “dart” dab tool sets the Plus apart from other wax pens. While some wax pens also have a similarly integrated dab tool, we have yet to see one like the Plus.
How to Clean the Puffco Plus?
Another great thing about the ceramic chamber is that it’s super easy to keep clean – all you need to do is hit it with some Vape Cleaning Sticks. Every so often, you can soak the atomizer in isopropyl alcohol for 15 minutes if any stubborn resin won’t come off. While doing that, you can also pull the dart out of the mouthpiece for a quick wipe-down.
There is no included carrying case with the Plus. While it is durable enough not to worry about that – You might be interested in something more durable like the Stashlogix Silverton.
Who’s the Puffco Plus best for?
The Puffco Plus is best for beginner dabbers or medicinal users looking for an easy-to-use kit that will never be harsh on the throat. The loading tools help to keep things clean, and generally, it’s hard to mess up a session with the Plus.
- Easy to use & maintain
- Excellent flavor
- No exposed charging port / Quick Charging
- Very Sleek Design
- Premium price tag
- Body gets hot after back-to-back sessions
- Small chamber size
- Expensive Replacement Puffco Plus atomizers
The convenient dart tool is the most accessible dab tool we have seen. The build quality and the vapor quality are exceptional on the Puffco Plus. However, the Plus does have a short battery life, slow extraction, and can only vape a little at a time.
With that in mind, the ceramic atomizer’s vapor quality is excellent, and sessions were consistent at all three temperatures. Whether you are vaping wax, shatter, crumble or live resin, the terpenes were excellent every time – It’s definitely earned a spot on our list of the Best Dab Pens.
