How to use the DaVinci IQ2
The DaVinci IQ2 operates similarly to the original IQ, it’s just has made some solid quality of life improvements across the board. To turn the device on, the main power button is on the side, and then changing the temperature is done with the two buttons on the same side. The temperature options are the same as the original IQ with either precision temperature control, or by choosing one of four pre-set ‘smart-path’ temperatures.
DaVinci IQ2 Vaporizer Application
Huge applause to the DaVinci team for hastily coding the new dosing monitoring directly onto the device in light of Apple banning 180 vaping-related apps! You can input the THC and CBD concentrates, desired dose, and amount loaded into the device to monitor how much cannabinoids you’re taking in. The device will let you know once you hit the desired amount, which can be awesome for medical patients and functional vapers alike!
DaVinci IQ2 Battery Life
The included 18650 battery is powered by 3500mAh of juice, which will lead to roughly 6-10 sessions per charge. A decent uptime, but on the downside they still use an outdated Micro-USB charging port which is outshined these days by USB-C ports. Via the Micro-USB charger, it’ll take around 3.50-5 hours to charge fully, so we’d recommend picking up a separate 18650 battery and external charger, too. For heavy users, you’ll want to pick up a good vape carrying case like the Stashlogix Silverton which will help you keep all of your 420 accessories in one convenient storage spot.
Ceramic Bowl & Conduction Heating Review
The ceramic conduction bowl on the IQ2 is surprisingly large, holding up to roughly 0.5 grams of finely ground cannabis when its tightly packed! Typically though you can load around 0.35 grams, which is still significantly more than most portable dry herb vapes. The ‘pearl’ on the chamber latch can be unscrewed to compress down into the chamber for a better roast, or use the DaVinci IQ glass spacers will also cut the chamber size down quite a bit for people who prefer smaller doses. We really like the spacers and it’s a simple solution for microdosing.
DaVinci IQ2 Accessories
The IQ2 now comes with some concentrate pads and one IQ2 dosing capsule. The capsule holds roughly 0.2 grams inside and it works pretty great even though it takes a bit more time for the herb to heat-soak and start hitting harder. The concentrate pads work alright, but we much prefer using a dedicated wax pen vaporizer instead. To use either one, just place them into your chamber and vape as normal. We’d recommend dosing capsules to anyone who always has their sessions on the go, as it will be way easier to reload your chamber without any mess!
DaVinci IQ2 Vapor Quality
For a stealthy portably dry herb vape, the DaVinci IQ2 is definitely one of the best options on the market! While we’re not as fond of conduction vaporizers, the IQ2 is definitely the best conduction vape we’ve tried. The flavor for the first handful of hits is very nice, it heats up in around 30 seconds, and the adjustable airflow is definitely nice to play around with. We found we liked a half-open draw for the best vapor/air ratio while it still being smooth on the lungs. We give the vapor quality a solid 7.5/10, with a desktop vape like the Volcano Hybrid being a 10. This is very impressive considering the size, and it’ll satisfy most users quite well. Is the vapor quality better than the OG IQ? Yes, but not really so much that it’s worth upgrading just for that. One of the nice features is being able to adjust the airflow if you prefer a tighter draw.
Extract Disc Vapor Quality
The dosing capsule comes in the kit with an extract disc and small cotton pads which you’ll be able to put into the oven for small amounts of dabs. They take much longer to start putting out vapor compared to a normal dab pen, but if you’re looking for a relaxing wax session, it’s a decent alternative. You’ll get decent vapor output full of flavor with long and slow inhales after a few minutes of the oven heating up.
Isolated Air Path + ABV Extraction
The vapor path is well insulated from the electronics and the cloud production is certainly impressive, especially with larger bowl sizes. The ABV comes out nice and dark, without much stirring required. While some people don’t care for the flavor chamber, loading it with herbs like sage or clove can provide some surprisingly nice flavor, changing up the experience quite dramatically.
Davinci IQ2 Bubblers and Bong Adapters
With the included Davinci IQ2 raised mouthpiece, you can use it as 10mm bong adapter for use with something like a 10mm bubbler. The ability to attach a bubbler definitely increases the vapor quality of the IQ2 twice over. With the power of water-cooled vapor on your side, you’ll never have to worry about coughing and will be able to take way bigger, harder-hitting inhales.
DaVinci IQ2 Portability
DaVinci quotes the new IQ2 to be “9%” bigger than the original. Honestly, though this difference is hardly noticeable at all, and we find it’s still a great portable herb vaporizer! It’s almost as compact as you can get while still housing a 18650 battery inside. It also weighs a whole 11 grams more than the original, which is basically nothing. It’ll fit comfortably in your pockets without issue and take up a negligible amount of space. For you dedicated DaVinci fans out there, you can also pick up the DaVinci Vaporizer Case to have matching portability swag for your vape.
Is the DaVinci IQ2 Discreet?
You’ll be able to hide away the whole body of the IQ2 in your palm, and since it resembles a normal e-cig or power bank, this is a very stealthy unit to use in public. However, it puts out heavy amounts of skunky smell, a typical characteristic of conduction session vapes. Keep this in mind if you want to toke up in places you shouldn’t, others will be able to smell your cannabis.
What’s in the DaVinci IQ2 box?
- DaVinci IQ2
- 3500mAh 18650 battery
- Micro-USB Charging cable
- Cotton concentrate pads + steel concentrate pad
- Cleaning tools and alcohol wipes
- Dosing capsule pod
- Flat metal mouthpiece
- 10mm metal mouthpiece
- Safety instructions
- Quick start guide
The box itself is pretty awesome and has a little drawer-type compartment to store everything away safely. We’re really glad about what they included and it’s good enough to start with. We’d probably recommend picking up a couple more dosing pods as well to accompany you when you’re out and about.
DaVinci IQ2 Build Quality
The price is definitely on the high side, but you get what you pay for in the same way. The performance may not completely stand up to some of the top dogs, but it certainly makes its mark! The integrated stir stick, app control, flavor chamber, herb capsule, adjustable airflow, and generally great design are things you just don’t see in other portable herb vapes! For the more affordable version of the IQ2, make sure to learn more about the DaVinci IQC Vaporizer. The overall build quality and engineering behind the DaVinci IQ2 is top notch, not to mention the truly brilliant and luxurious packaging. Kudos to the DaVinci team, they really know how to design and package a product!
DaVinci IQ2 Warranty
DaVinci makes an awesome product and they back it up with a solid 10-year warranty. We’ve heard some incredible stories about their customer service, which is very reassuring. We’ve seldom heard of DaVinci IQ’s malfunctioning and the new design changes have made it even more reliable in terms of cleaning and heat control. The new pearl is much less likely to fall/break off too! Replacement parts are around as well, in case you lose the flavor chamber or stir stick.
How to clean the DaVinci IQ2?
Cleaning the DaVinci IQ2 is a fairly straight forward process as long as you are regularly knocking our your vaped bud after every session with the included pick tool. When it comes to a more thorough cleaning, here are our recommended steps to follow:
- Open the bottom and top lids, and remove the pick tool
- Hook the pick tool onto the metal air path’s opening to remove it
- Use vape cleaning sticks to remove any debris in the chamber and in the metal air path
- For the mouthpiece, remove the rubber gasket and either use alcohol wipes or soak it in isopropyl alcohol for a few minutes
- Once done, simply replace the mouthpiece and metal airpath and cap and you’ll be good to go
Who is the IQ2 vaporizer best suited for?
If you want a portable dry herb vape that offers a lot more than your standard budget conduction vaporizer, then the DaVinci IQ2 certainly delivers on that! For someone who’s out on the go a lot and who wants to keep track of their weed usage/dosing, it’ll be the perfect buy. Functional stoners and medical patients alike can definitely get some great use from that feature. It still does get quite warm during use, especially the flat metal mouthpiece, and if you’re a heavy smoker who does constant back-to-back sessions with friends, then you might want something a bit more heavy-duty for sessions like the Arizer Air Max or a desktop unit like the Arizer XQ2.
Who’s the DaVinci IQ2 not for?
More so than anything, the DaVinci IQ2 is aimed at people looking for a high-quality and super sleek device made from only high-quality parts. If aesthetics aren’t as important and you mainly just care about vapor quality, than there are a ton of different options for you. The Micro-USB 5 hour charging can also be a huge buzzkill for anyone that doesn’t want to spend money on another battery or an external charger. The XMAX V3 Pro is a great budget alternative that also has a swappable battery, USB-C charging, and dosing capsule accessories.
DaVinci IQ2 Tips and Tricks
Here are some DaVinci IQ2 tips & tricks to have it working even better than usual!
- A fine (not superfine) grind packed down slightly tight definitely gives the best results! Not too tight or fine as that’ll impede the airflow.
- Slow and long draws work better than hard rips. Vapor is normally best on the 3rd-6th hits!
- Load the flavor chamber up with some herbs like lavender, chamomile, sage, peppermint, or damiana for some great flavors! Check out DaVinci’s list of the alternative herbs to vape on.
- The smart-paths are great for gradually increasing temperature over the duration of the session.
- Stir the chamber halfway through the session to have your weed evenly cooked.
DaVinci IQ2 Pros
- 10-year warranty
- Isolated air path
- Large ceramic oven + metal airpath
- Emphasis on dosage control via chamber compressor, phone application, dosing capsules
- Adjustable airflow dial
- Beautiful user interface lights display
- High-quality materials
- Swappable 18650 battery
- Highly portable
DaVinci IQ2 Cons
- Five hour+ charge time
- Mouthpiece gets hot after back-to-back sessions
- High price tag
- Extra dosing ceramic capsules are pricy
We really liked the original DaVinci IQ, and the DaVinci IQ2 is definitely an improvement over the original. The device doesn’t get as hot (still gets warm), the adjustable airflow is nice to play around with, the dosing monitoring is definitely welcome for advanced users, and some minor quality of life changes definitely make it better than the original.
However, it is pretty pricey and you’ll be shelling out quite a bit of cash. We consider it to be worth it, unless you’re a stickler for vapor quality and demand the best flavor at any compromise. For a portable dry herb vape though, it’s very stealthy and a solid unit for sure. In fact, it’s about as good as you can get to give the size of the unit. A swappable 18650 battery is super nice to have and sadly only a few units offer that ability. It’s not a budget herb vape by any means, but it’s worth the price if you’re looking to shell out for a good dry herb vape! See our best budget cannabis vaporizers list if you’re a bit strapped for cash. The XMAX V3 Pro is a great alternative that’s just over $100!
