Quickstart Guide

Hybrid vs. Convection Heating Systems

  • In short, the POTV One uses a hybrid heating system, while the XMAX V3 Pro mainly relies on convection hot-air heating.

To break this down for beginners, this means that the V3 Pro mainly relies on hot air passing through the chamber to extract the THC, while the POTV One uses a combination of hot air as well as its titanium bowl heating up for conduction heating as well.

There are two main differences between the heating systems that you should know about

  • The V3 Pro has less smell

Convection vaporizers only really heat your cannabis when you take inhales, so you’re really in control of the extraction.

On the POTV One, the conduction oven will be cooking your cannabis in the oven as soon as you turn it on, so you can expect a bit more odor during sessions compared to the V3 Pro.

  • The POTV has the harsher vapor

While the POTV One is not a harsh vaporizer by any means, its shorter airpath and more powerful hybrid oven mean that the vapor will more often be hotter compared to the V3 Pro. On the V3 Pro, two huge air intake holes let a lot of air into the chamber for unrestrictive draws.

One thing that people might not like about the V3 Pro is that you’ll have to take inhale longer than five seconds to get big clouds going.

  • Because the oven in the ONE is overall stronger, it works best with cigar-style puff inhales

Vapor Quality Review

In terms of vapor quality, I would say there is no real winner because they are just very different. As mentioned, the POTV One uses shorter inhales which work best with a lower set temperature of 380°F / 193°C or below.

With the XMAX V3 Pro, the best performance comes from taking inhales that are 10 seconds or longer!

Based on my experiences, I would say that the vapor taste was similar and that they just have different types of inhaling methods.

Which extracts THC better?

Even though the POTV One has the more powerful oven, most people will be using a lower temperature which slows its THC extraction down.

  • For the XMAX V3 Pro, you’ll be able to clear your bowl in five minutes or so.
  • With the POTV, it uses a four minutes session timer, that will need at least the start of a second session unless you are a very heavy user and use it at a very high temperature.

For most people though, the XMAX will have the better and more efficient THC extraction.

Both are compatible with flower and concentrates

Included with each kit is a mesh dosing capsule that will let you vape a small amount of concentrates.

The POTV One has better results as the wax cup in the V3 Pro is pretty inefficient at heating the cup enough to get the extraction up.

You’ll have to use the max temperature and take some small primer inhale to get the hot air moving through the chamber. After a few minutes, you’ll get some decent puffs before the dab is spent.

The POTV mesh pad heats up very well thanks to the hybrid oven and can pump out great clouds with great taste.

  • With either concentrate pad, you’ll need to soak them in isopropyl for 20 minutes after two sessions or so to avoid burning the old soaked-in concentrates.

Portability Review

This is another category that comes down to preference as you can choose between the blocky and heavy POTV One design or the long and narrow pen-shaped design of the XMAX V3 Pro.

They’re definitely both very portable but people should choose based on their preferences.

  • For the POTV One, it weighs a bit more than the V3 Pro and I found that it swung around in my pocket because of its blocky design.
  • For the XMAX V3 Pro, its height comes out at six inches, so it won’t be fitting in smaller pockets.

In either case, I preferred to use a vape case to help with keeping everything I need for a session organized and in one place.

The V3 Pro has the better battery specs

While either vape’s battery specs, they certainly aren’t impressive. For the POTV One, it’s about four sessions per charge, and for the XMAX, it’s about six.

  • The XMAX V3 Pro has a swappable 18650 battery and uses USB-C Charging, with a charge time of about three hours
  • THE POTV One uses Micro-SB charging, and will have a charge time of about 90 minutes

Having USB-C and a swappable 18650 battery is overall a better spec in my books though as Micro-USBs are beginning to fade out and become less common to find at friend’s homes.

POTV One has the better manufacturing Quality

  • I would say that the POTV one has the better build quality as it feels extremely solid in the hand and was designed well thanks to its swappable mouthpiece system.

For the XMAX V3 Pro, the stock plastic mouthpiece is a bit clunky to use and I normally suggest to people to upgrade to the XMAX V3 Pro Glass Mouthpiece for easier and more comfortable inhaling.

The inclusion of the glass mouthpiece on the POTV One raises its overall value and is easy to inhale.

Comparable Models

While the XMAX V3 Pro has a very unique design, an upgrade might be the AirVape Legacy Pro due to their similarly shaped mouthpieces. In almost every category, the ALP has it beat though, and would be a great upgrade.

The POTV comes from the same Chinese manufacturer as the HealthyRips Fury 2 & Rogue, and the Utillian 620 as well.

Which is easier to use?

The POTV ONE is the easier of the two to use. As soon as your turn it on with five presses of the power button, it will begin heating right away and the big OLED screen is easy to use and understand with the simple up and down arrows it uses to operate.

The XMAX V3 Pro is also similarly easy to use but has a bit of a learning curve. In session mode, it will automatically begin heating after three clicks of the power button, but again, you’ll need to be taking inhales of five seconds or longer to get it going.

On the V3 Pro, you can swap to on-demand mode which will begin heating only as you press the power button. You swap to this mode by pressing the up and down arrows for a few seconds. In this mode, heating will only be supplied to the chamber when you press the power button, which can make it great for sharing sessions with friends, especially since the V3 Pro reaches temp in as little as 15 seconds.

XMAX V3 PRO ON DEMAND MODE

After your session, you can use the lip on the mouthpiece to also easily knock out your bowl without having to worry about getting a pick tool from the kit like in the POTV One.

Tips and Tricks

The great thing about each model is that they are made to be upgraded! Each vape comes with a wide selection of mouthpiece upgrades to choose from which are worth checking out.

  • While the POTV comes with a dry herb and wax dosing capsule, the XMAX only comes with a mesh cup for concentrates, so you’ll have to pick up a five-pack of XMAX Dry Herb Dosing Capsules.

To help you with easier long inhales on the V3 Pro, you can also give the XMAX 14mm Glass Adapter along with the 14mm Mega Globe Whip Bubbler. This hookah session will not only cool your vapor down a lot but be much easier on the inhales for taking huge hits – Perfect for heavy users.

Ease of Cleaning Review

After each session, you can use the mouthpiece of your V3 Pro to knock out the bowl, or the pick tool from your POTV One’s kit for the same thing.

On a side note, using dosing capsules helps the speed of chamber reloading as well as the amount of loose herb that will be in your chamber for cleaning.

  • With a vape cleaning stick, you’ll be able to mop up most of the resin in your chamber while it’s still hot and runny.
  • For the internal parts of the mouthpieces, you can also place the ceramic and metal parts from each vape in isopropyl alcohol for 20 minutes before a gentle brushing

Overall, they aren’t very hard to maintain and can be cleaned in just a few minutes by most people.

Community Consensus

More often than not, you’ll see people recommending the XMAX V3 Pro over the POTV One to people asking the question. While the POTV One gets its props for the powerful oven, the on-demand and swappable battery features are more applicable to the majority of users.

Warranty

  • The POTV One comes with a two-year warranty, and PlanetoftheVapes has a great reputation to boot.
  • XMAX Vape offers a one-year warranty on their V3 Pro and also has a great reputation for honoring their warranties.

Who’s the POTV One for?

The POTV One is best for people that are looking for a backup of their main device.

Heavy users will be able to take longer draws that will access overall better extraction that can clear the bowl in as little as four big hits. Experienced connoisseurs like this will also want to pick up a vape bubbler and bong and the WPA for the One which can make it swing above its weight class.

Who’s the XMAX V3 Pro for?

The XMAX V3 Pro is probably the best beginner dry herb vaporizer as it’s able to do a lot in a kit that won’t break the bank. It offers easy cloud production that won’t be hot, easy battery versatility, and different heating modes for when advanced users want to mix things up a bit.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, I really don’t think that there’s a winner in this Portable Weed Vaporizer comparison. They both have awesome and inclusive kits that will have most people hitting the ground running.
