Small Ceramic Plate Atomizer

  • The KandyPens Sessions uses a tiny 510-threaded ceramic plate atomizer and a small magnetic carb cap for its heating system.

Because of the smaller chamber capacity, it’ll be best to use a small dab amount of 0.1g or less, or about the size of a small grain of rice.

Since the atomizer’s airpath to the atomizer is at the top of the chamber, you can’t load too much or you’ll be restricting your airflow and clogging the air holes, especially if you inhale too hard.

As an E-Nail, it works very similarly to a glass banger that you’d use with a bong, except in this case, it does all of the heating for you in either a 60-second session or manual heating modes.

On that topic, it’s very easy to use the Session as there are only a few commands to know:

  1. Five clicks of the power button turns the Session on
  2. Three clicks cycles through the four voltages of 2.8V / 3.2V / 3.6V / 4V
  3. Two clicks begins a 60-second heating cycle
  4. Pressing and holding begins manual heating

Red voltage in action

To load the chamber, remove the magnetic lid and load in a little dab with the kit’s included dab tool before replacing the lid. Once your Session is on your bong, that’s when you’ll start your heating cycle.

Choose your mouthpiece

While you can choose to use the included glass mouthpiece, the Session is definitely made to be used on upright 14mm Vape Bubblers and Bongs.

  • For the WPA, you’ll be sliding it onto the O-Rings on the bottom of the vape
  • For the glass mouthpiece, it will magnetically attach over the atomizer

In my opinion, you should always use the WPA because the normal mouthpiece’s vapor path is short and generally harsher compared to a glass setup.

If your glass is smaller or bigger than 14mm, you can always use 14mm to 10mm or 14mm to 18mm adapters over the included WPA to make it fit your bong.

KandyPens Session Vapor Quality

The voltages combined with the very small atomizer make the Session more of a THC concentrate microdoser than anything else.

Something that surprised me about the Session was that even the lowest voltage was able to pump out massive clouds, though!

  • I was using the lowest 2.8V yellow heat setting, which I thought would give me wispy vapor and good flavor, but I was surprised by the pure white stream of vapor that it started to produce almost instantly.

  • Don’t let the small chamber size or the lowest voltage fool you; It pumps out absolutely massive clouds.

Something I do really love about the Session is that the air path is directly from ceramic to metal, so you won’t get any cheap plastic taste that other budget dab pens can sometimes have.

Dab Extraction Rating

Overall, despite the small capacity atomizer, you’ll be able to clear the bowl fully in the 60-second session mode as long as you haven’t overloaded it.

Because of the limited number of moving parts on the Sessions Wax Pen, though, maintenance is as easy as using a Vape Cleaning Stick in the bowl after it’s cooled down a bit to bring it back to looking new and shiny again!

What concentrates can it use?

Compared to Vaping Live Resin and Live Rosin, waxy concentrates will melt much easier and will be easier to clean!

One thing to note is that since the chamber is quite small, it might be hard to drop your dab in. To help this, you can use an electric dab tool like the Puffco Hot Knife where your dab will drip into the chamber effortlessly.

Is the KandyPens Session portable?

Overall, if you have a small 14mm bong like the 14mm Hydrotube Bubbler, you’ll be able to take your Session and glass in a Stashlogix Silverton. Otherwise, you’re better off leaving it at home for easier sessions.

1200mAh Battery Life

Overall, you’ll get 10 sixty-second sessions from the proprietary 1200mAh battery based on my experiences.

  • While it’s not the worst, it definitely doesn’t compare to the Best Dab Pens.

The fact that it uses USB-C charging and can be back to full within an hour is nice touch, though!

KandyPens Session vs G Pen Connect

While both E-Nails have a very similar design, the G Pen Connect is a bit easier to use.

The session timer of the Conenct is better tuned at 10 seconds and the button is much more comfortable to press overall.

Another thing that I like a bit more about the G Pen Connect is the carb cap button which has better functionality than the cap on the Session. As well, it has a better-contained atomizer that’s easier to load.

Since the plate heater on the Connect distributes heat better, it also works better natively if you don’t feel like using a bubbler or bong.

KandyPens Session Tips and Tricks

  • Keep the carb cap open since the draw is naturally tight
  • You can keep your vapor in the chamber by clogging the carb cap before you inhale for thicker hits
  • A full 60-second session will be able to clear the chamber
  • Use gentle inhales to prevent vapor from clogging the air path
  • Use a whip bubbler for the best and most fun results
  • Use a dabbing hot knife tool to make chamber loading much easier on yourself
  • If you want a pipe setup, you can pair it with a 14mm J-Hook Pipe

KandyPens Session Pros

  • The atomizer does a surprising job of pumping out big clouds
  • Affordable E-Nail
  • Isolated vapor path
  • USB-C Charging
  • Session mode is awesome
  • Affordable
  • Great for cloud chasers

Isolated air path

KandyPens Session Cons

  • You lose some terpenes using a whip bubbler setup
  • Loses terpene taste compared to other rigs and pens
  • Beginners might find the vapor to be hot
  • Can’t compete with the performance of the G Pen Hyer

Who’s the KandyPens Session for?

The KandyPens Sessions is a nice little pickup for anyone that want a unique backup dab pen to pair with their existing glass.

Who’s the KandyPens Session not for?

For full functionality, you’ll need to already own or purchase a quality piece of 14mm glass to pair the Session with.

If you don’t already own one, a nice piece can be $50 or more which might break your budget. As an alternative, you might consider the XMAX Qomo, which is an E-Rig under $100.
