In addition to the Yocan Evolve Plus Wax Vaporizer itself, you get a USB charging cable, two dual coil quartz atomizers, and a tool for dabbing.

Dual Quartz Coils

There is only one set temperature on the Yocan Evolve Plus, which is a bit of a disappointment – even for its affordable price. The Yocan brand tends to release pens for oils and waxes that don’t have any temperature flexibility. They seem to be targeting the novice vape user or one that only vapes concentrates every once in a while.

You can vary the intensity and size of your hits by holding the power button and releasing it a few times to get closer to the type of hit you want, rather than just holding it down and taking a rip. This will prevent the coils from getting too hot if you’d like to take a bit of a smaller vape hit.

The atomizer cap on the Yocan Evolve Plus also helps to vary the intensity of your wax rips by acting kind of like a carb cap that you’d find on a typical dab rig.

In our eyes this is the biggest drawback of the Yocan Evolve Plus compared to something like the Utillian 5 which offers multiple temperature settings in a similar form factor.

Yocan Evolve Plus Vapor Quality

There was a time in the wonderful world of vaporizers that a dual quartz atomizer was brand new and exciting. This is no longer the case. With that in mind, the vapor quality on the Yocan Evolve Plus is just average. It’s not bad, but it’s not great, either.

As we mentioned above, you can vary the temperature and size of your hits a little bit by using the atomizer cap and pressing the button for a few seconds, then releasing it – rather than just holding it down. Newbies will probably be fine with the Evolve vapor, but experienced vape users might be disappointed. We much prefer having voltage control on a unit, something that even the tiny Utillian 2 accomplishes.

Is the Yocan Evolve Plus Portable?

The device is quite portable and fits easily into your pocket and hand, despite it being larger than your average wax pen. However, the discreetness might be an issue due to it looking more like a wax marker than a pen, which could draw some unwanted attention. Just like other wax pens, odor really isn’t much of an issue, which helps add to the discreetness. How to use the Yocan Evolve Plus?

Using this device is about as easy as they come. Let’s take a look at a sample session:

1. To load the Yocan Evolve Plus, just unscrew the mouthpiece and the coil cap to get to the chamber.
2. Add your favorite wax to the chamber, and reassemble.
3. Turning on the device takes five clicks of the button, which is common for wax pens nowadays.
4. The light surrounding the power button will turn on when it is ready to go. To take a rip, just hold the button down and inhale.

You’ll want to load your wax right onto the coils for the best smoothness and vapor quality, but be sure to keep the metal tool away from the coils, or the tool could harmfully impact them.

1100mAh Battery 

The Yocan Evolve Plus battery is one area where this device really shines. An 1100mAh battery is something you normally don’t find on most cheap dab pens, as they usually have 650mAh batteries. Most users can go for a few days worth of sessions without having to charge. With the USB charger, you can charge the device pretty much anywhere you go, which is convenient.

Yocan Evolve Plus Build Quality 

This unit is made from pure metal and comes in silver, black, red, blue or orange. The Yocan Evolve Plus coils are double and made of quartz, which is becoming a standard for wax pens. The cap that fits over the atomizer is a nice touch, and not something you’ll find on most devices. The standard 510-thread connection works well for attaching the components easily.

Even though we like the shape and the various colors of the G Pen Micro+, we do think the Yocan Evolve Plus looks a bit more attractive.

How to clean the Yocan Evolve Plus?

When it comes to Yocan Evolve Plus cleaning, it is easy to keep the mouthpiece free from bacteria with a Q-Tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol. You can keep your atomizer and coils clean as well by taking a Q-Tip to the atomizer and swirling it around gently to remove build-up. You will need to be very careful while doing so though, because the coils can be damaged easily.

Final Thoughts 

The Yocan Evolve Plus is an affordable vape that is a great choice for occasional vape users and novices that are looking for a wax pen that will last long and deliver decent vapor quality. The storage container for wax on the unit itself is a nice touch that does set the unit apart from some other devices at its price point.

However, experienced vape users will probably want some kind of temperature flexibility and a bit higher vapor quality from their wax pens. In this case, we recommend checking out the Utillian 5.

The Evolve Plus is still a solid unit, don’t get me wrong, however, it’s beaten out handily by other units like the aforementioned Utillian 5. It’s one redeeming factor is the availability of replacement coils alongside that super convenient wax compartment! Beginners will absolutely be well served by this unit still and we’d still highly recommend it. Experienced users and dab fanatics would enjoy something a bit nicer however.

You can expect your coils to last a month or two before needing to be replaced, or less time if you don’t clean them ever.

Yes, the coils are strong enough to vape a small amount of hash.

Yes, but the 3.8V might be a little harsh and burn your oil.

Based on our experience, the Yocan Evolve Plus works best with around 0.1g sized dab, which is about the size of a grain of rice. You can choose to use more, but you might have pooling and gunking of the chamber and threading. 

What concentrate is best for the Yocan Evolve Plus? 

Wax is probably the best concentrate for the Evolve Plus because you won’t be losing flavor like you would on the quartz coils with live resin.
